March 1, 2022

Happy March! We’ve been busy getting everything ready for Spring. At last count, sixty ewes have lambed, giving us ninety-six lambs so far. With forty ewes that haven’t lambed yet, that number is expected to increase greatly.
Unfortunately, sometimes ewes have stillborns, or the lambs aren’t healthy enough to make it. We do our best though, and thankfully, we have only lost a handful of the ninety-six lambs we have been blessed with.
One new thing we are doing this year, is a monthly CSA share. For those who order this type of share, we will deliver it on the first Thursday of each month, when we do our monthly deliveries to the cities.

We’re in the middle of lambing season again. One bonus of this season is that it reminds us that Spring is on the way. 🙂 I’ve got some cute pictures for you.

My Minnesota Farmer
New Year Business Changes

Winter offers us the opportunity to plan our future business ventures.

Following are some changes we will be making, and how they relate to you.
Like so many others right now, Dean and I have been reevaluating what we are doing and how we spend our time. Looking at our oldest daughter, who is a senior this year, and watching our kids grow up while we are so busy farming, has made us reevaluate where we are and what we want for our family. Although we greatly love farming, right now we need to make some changes so we can focus more of our love, time and attention on our seven kids before they are grown and gone. With that in mind, here are some changes we are making to our business to make our family run more smoothly:
  • We are putting more time and energy into our livestock. This is Dean’s passion, and he is very good at raising pork, beef, chicken, and lamb.
  • We will discontinue deliveries to most of our CSA drop sites. We will still deliver shares to the Mankato Farmers Market on Saturdays and will have farm pickup available on Saturdays, but we will no longer make weekly or bi-weekly deliveries to drop sites throughout the Twin Cities and suburbs.
  • We will continue our monthly “to your door” deliveries of meat, eggs, granola, and select produce items. Note that our next “to your door” delivery will be Thursday, Jan. 13. Click here or scroll down for links to our online store.
  • We will continue to sell all our products at the Mankato Farmers Market and to grow for local restaurants and Gustavus Adolfus College.
Many of you have been members of our CSA for the entire 12 years we’ve been in business, or at least a good portion of that time. We are so thankful for your continued support of our family!

Though we will no longer be doing weekly CSA drop site deliveries, our hope is that our monthly deliveries to your door will continue to provide you with our organically- and locally-grown products without us spending so many hours on the road. We anticipate that by making these changes, we will work more efficiently and be able to improve our overall service to customers.

Thank you for your understanding and we wish you a happy, blessed 2022!
